1. Myopia (SHORT SIGHTEDNESS)
Blurred vision when looking at distant objects is the main symptom of myopia or nearsightedness.
Your child may have nearsightedness if he or she:
- Sits at the front of the classroom.
- Moves very close to the TV or movie screen.
- Lacks interest in sports or other activities that require good distance vision.
Along with blurred vision, your child may:
- Squint and frown.
- Get frequent headaches.
- Hold books or other objects close to his or her face.
Ayurvedic treatment for Myopia
A complete regime including both internal and local treatment modalities are rolled out which spans over a period of 2-6 months.
A comprehensive approach incorporating Ayurvedic procedures to rectify the root cause, eliminate blockages in the eye channels, reinforce and energize the optical nerves and tissues along with proper dietary habits are introduced. The procedures undertaken during the course of treatment are:
- Samshodhan: Detoxification and purification by virechana and Ayurvedic eye treatments.
- Nethradhara: Medicated herbal decoction is dripped over the eyes which has very good healing effects on the eye.
- Nasya: Drops of herbal medicine is put into each nostril.
- NethraTharpana/ NetraVasti: The words mean "nourishing the eye". Medicated herbal oil/ghee is poured and left in a flour compartment around the eyes for a particular time period .The medicinal properties of the oil nourish, strengthen the eyes and helps to cure the disease. The procedure has both curative and preventive effects.
2) HYPERMETROPIA ( FAR SIGHTEDNESS )

3) KERRATOCONUS
- Monocular polyopia (perception of multiple 'ghost' images in the eye).
- Blurring of vision.
- Decreased visual acuity.
- Progressively poor vision, not corrected with eye glasses.
- Impaired visual perception.
- Streaking and flaring distortion around light sources.
- Difference in vision of two eyes.
- Photophobia (increased sensitivity to light).
- Eyestrain, in order to read clearly.
- Poor vision at night.
- Itching.
TREATMENT
- Ayurveda has very effective and proven treatment to arrest the progress of keratoconus.

4) STARGARDT'S DISEASE
- Stargardt's disease is the most common form of inherited juvenile macular degeneration involving the macula.

5) Vernalkerato conjunctivitis (VKC)
- Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a rare, chronic allergic disease affecting children in prepuberal age.
- Itching is the most important and most common symptom.

- Photophobia, foreign body sensation, tearing and blepherospasm, Redness, lacrimation, mucous discharge and blurring of vision

6) CATARACT
- Clouded, blurred or dim vision.
- Increasing difficulty with vision at night.
- Sensitivity to light and glare.
- Need for brighter light for reading and other activities.
- Seeing "halos" around lights.
- Frequent changes in eyeglass or contact lens prescription.
- Fading or yellowing of colors.
- Double vision.
TREATMENT
- If started at an early stage, Ayurvedic Cataract treatment is very effective. Ayurvedic treatment alleviates the aggravated body energies and nourishes and strengthens the nerves and tissues of the eye.

7) Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
AMD is a disease associated with aging that gradually destroys sharp, central vision.
SYMPTOMS
- Blurred or "fuzzy" vision.
- Straight lines, such as sentences on a page, appearing wavy or distorted.
- Blurry areas on a printed page.
- Difficulty reading or seeing details in low light levels.
- Extra sensitivity to glare.

- Rejuvenating Ayurvedic medicines gives strength to retina and improves vision.
- Supportive treatments like sekam, anjanam, tarpanam etc., prevents from further worsening and stabilises the vision.
8) GLOUCOMA
Glaucoma is the second biggest cause for blindness in the world. Glaucoma is a condition which is associated with group of eye diseases that damage your optic nerve and gets worse over time if not treated. It happens due to formation of high pressure inside eye.
SYMPTOMS
- Severe eye pain.
- Nausea and vomiting (accompanying the severe eye pain).
- Sudden onset of visual disturbance, often in low light.
- Blurred vision.
- Halos around lights.
- Reddening of the eye.
TREATMENT
- The earlier the treatment starts , the better the chance of complete cure.
- Anjana karma( Rasanjana).
- Eye exercises- Palming, Distant and near focusing, Rotational movements of eye will help to improve blood circulations . These exercises will strengthen the muscles of eyes and maintain vision level.
- Yogic kriya- Trataka (concentrating on specific object/candle light), Bhramari, SooryaNamaskara useful to improve strength of eye.
- Tarpana is very effective kriyakalpa. It is used to treat early formation of glaucoma.
- Putapaka, seka, aschyotana, pindi, bidalaka, nasya karma is useful to improve eye sight.
9) Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy, also known as diabetic eye disease (DED) is a medical condition in which damage occurs to the retina due to diabetes mellitus. It is a leading cause of blindness in developed countries.
SYMPTOMS
You might not have symptoms in the early stages of diabetic retinopathy. As the condition progresses, diabetic retinopathy symptoms may include:
- Spots or dark strings floating in your vision (floaters)
- Blurred vision
- Fluctuating vision
- Impaired color vision
- Dark or empty areas in your vision
- Vision loss
- Diabetic retinopathy usually affects both eyes.
TREATMENT
Diabetic retinopathy affects up to 80 percent of those who have had diabetes for 20 years or more. At least 90% of new cases could be reduced with proper treatment and monitoring of the eyes. The longer a person has diabetes, the higher his or her chances of developing diabetic retinopathy.
